Frequently Asked Questions

To apply for childcare allowance, go to the Tax Office website. To apply, you will need several pieces of information, most of which can be found on your contract. The contract contains information such as the hourly rate, the LRK number and the number of hours of care you receive. In addition, you will need your aggregate annual income .

For the year 2023, the maximum hourly rate on which you will receive childcare allowance is €9.12. How much childcare benefit you will receive depends on your personal circumstances, such as your income, how many children you have in care, the days of care and your chosen care location. To get an indication of the costs and what you will receive in child care benefit, you can use our simple calculation tool.

You are entitled to childcare allowance if you and your partner work. If one of you is not working, but is studying, following a pathway to find work, or taking a mandatory integration course, you are also entitled to childcare allowance.

You can be reimbursed up to a maximum of 230 hours of care per month and per child. As of 2023, this maximum applies to everyone entitled to childcare allowance, regardless of the number of hours you work or study. With 5 days per week of childcare, there are 238 hours of childcare per month.

If you lose your job, you are still entitled to child care benefits for 3 months. This gives you time to apply for a job while your children can continue to enjoy care. If you do or do not find a new job within this period and your aggregate income or number of hours worked changes, you should report the changes to the Tax Office. This way, you will only receive the allowance to which you are entitled. You will have to repay any excess benefit received later.

The Tax Office pays tax refunds and benefits to one account number per taxpayer (you or your partner). At De Kleine Houtrakkers it is not possible to transfer the childcare allowance directly to us. You will receive the childcare allowance yourself from the Belastingdienst (Dutch tax authority) and therefore always pay the invoice to us yourself (via direct debit).

It is very important that the Supplementary Benefits Department of the Tax Administration receives the correct information from you so that they can pay the child care benefit correctly. You are responsible for notifying the Belastingdienst Toeslagen department of any changes. You must report the changes listed below:

  • The number of days and hours of care
  • LRK number
  • Change in income
  • Hourly rate

Attention! After you log in to My Benefits, you will see, whether your change has also been processed correctly. If you have to submit multiple changes, there must be at least two working days between the changes. For parents who are studying, integrating or in a reintegration program, the first step is to submit the changes to the municipality. Only after the municipality has approved the change should they pass the change(s) on to the Belastingdienst Toeslagen themselves.

Each month you will receive an invoice for childcare from us around the 20th of the month. We prepare the invoice for you in the Parent Portal. Via direct debit we collect the amount prior to the month in which your childcare takes place. This is in line with the Belastingdienst Toeslagen, who also transfers the childcare allowance in advance. The date of collection may vary from month to month. The collection takes place on the 25th with the exception of weekends and holidays, in which case the collection may take place earlier.
